Advice before you hire a rental car in
Abu Dhabi

Careful consideration should be taken before hiring a rental car in Abu Dhabi or any of the Emirates.

Driving standards in the city vary, Road Traffic Accidents are not uncommon and often carry very stiff penalties.

Driving is on the right hand side of the road and most roads in the City or to neighbouring Emirates are well maintained three lane highways.

All the Major Rental Car Agencies operate in Abu Dhabi. These agencies have down town offices as well as representations at the Abu Dhabi International Airport. Or ask your Hotel concierge to arrange your car hire.

Check before you leave home, but at the very least you will need to have an International Driving Licence in order to organise car hire in Abu Dhabi.

Even with the aide of an Abu Dhabi City Map, navigation around the island can be a real headache. This is due to the fact that there is very little in the form of physical street addresses. Instead addresses tend to take the form of which Bank, Hotel or Mosque your destination is near.

Unless you really need to drive, I would definitely recommend taking a limousine standard taxi. They are a major mode of transport in Abu Dhabi, relatively cheap and will make your journeys around the city a lot more relaxing.
