About Abu Dhabi and why I built this website!
As I hope you can tell from this website I am passionate about Abu Dhabi. Why?
.... well the story dates back about 30 years to when my German school-exchange friend went to live there as an expat. I have no idea why I was so determined to go and see her there. She was a great friend, but it was more than that, I suddenly made up my mind that I wanted to go to Abu Dhabi.
I immediately got a couple of weekend jobs and saved as much as I could. Sadly her family left Abu Dhabi before I had saved all of the airfare! Talk about disappointed, I was wo sad about that missed opportunity however little did I know that 20 years later I would be stepping on a plane to go and live in Abu Dhabi myself!
I couldn't have been more happy when my husband was offered a job in Abu Dhabi, although most people still hadn't heard of the Emirate then, it was one place I desperately wanted to see, and I was very excited at the opportunity to live there.
Talk about a mirage in the desert. Impressive skyscrapers right on the edge of the Gulf, where 50 years previously only bedouin tents had been. I was surprised that I liked the city so much. I prefer to live in the country when in England and have never much liked cities. But Abu Dhabi had me firmly in its grasp. Of course I could only wish that my dream had come true all those years earlier, to have seen the contrast in the city over a span of twenty years would have been pretty phenomenal I'm sure.
.. and to why I built the website?
Well basically its as simple as saying that I wanted people to see Abu Dhabi as I did. Not just to book a package to a hotel but to get out and about in Abu Dhabi.
I had absolutely no idea how to build a website. I don't remember one single computer in our school (I won't reveal what year that was!).
