Interesting Facts about the Grand Mosque Abu DhabiThe 'Grand Mosque, Abu Dhabi' as it was referred to through most of its construction is now estimated to be the third largest mosque in the world.The Mosque can accommodate nearly 41,000 worshippers in its prayer halls and courtyards.
The main dome of the Grand Mosque is thought to be the largest in the world measuring 32.7 meters in diameter and a staggering 85 metres in height (70 m on the inside).All of the Mosque's 80 domes are finished in white marble. At each of the four corners of the Mosque stands a 107 metre high minaret. Worshippers and visitors to the Mosque will appreciate the workmanship in ovr 1000 columns which are covered in hand made marble panels and set with semi-precious stones including, mother of pearl, lapis lazuli, red agate, abalone shell and amethyst. The courtyard covers 17,000 square metres and artificial lakes add another 7,874 metres to this impressive Mosque.
Visiting Times - Sheikh Zayed Mosque
Visit the mosque daily Saturday - Thursday between 9.00am - 12noon Guided Tours are at Sunday - Thrusday at 9am and 10am and last around 60 minutes. Please arrive 15 minutes before tour starts.Groups over 6 please book in advance. Fridays: open only for worshippers.
Vistors to Sheikh Zayed Mosque are repectfully asked to observe the following dress code: Modest, conservative, loose fitting clothing - this means: Please respect the Mosque as a place of worship and do not display any intimate behaviour such as holding hands/kissing. Please ensure that younger members of your party are well supervised and that all in your party respect worshippers. Please note that smoking, food and drink is not allowed in the mosque area Visitors are kindly requested not to touch the Holy Quran and also not to touch other architectural elements inside the main prayer hall. Cost: Tours are complimentary.
Photographs: Photographs are permitted during the tour. However please ask permission before photographing people. Children over seven are admitted, but are asked to be kept under close parental supervision.
